| Mamma.com Refines its Search Engine Offering |
| 12 January 2003 |

Mamma.com - has made refinements to it's search engine offering. As of December 19th, Mamma will no longer serve untargeted banner advertising on its search result pages. All sponsored search results will be identified as such in compliance with the recently imposed FTC standards. Mamma.com's proprietary paid listings and sponsored listings remain separate from the main search results, and a Sponsored Source Listing" identifier accompanies any paid listings provided in the body of the meta-search results.
The decision to take a cut in revenue by removing run of network banners from Mamma.com is in part due to a recent business acquisition. The purchase of online media network FocusIN (formerly of ZAQ Inc), in early December allows Mamma.com to make a clear distinction between the company's two primary businesses: search and advertising. While advertisements will still appear on the Mamma.com search engine, they will be restricted to keyword-targeted placements that remain relevant to the search performed.
"This reflects our new emphasis and ability to focus more on our users and to provide them with what they want - good results and relevant advertising" comments Mr. Guy Fauré, CEO and President of Mamma.com.
Other changes include a new ranking algorithm that eliminates duplicate results to limit redundancy, and also ranks results based on popularity. . This new technology has increased the overall relevancy of the search results, and will continue to refine the user experience as more content sources are added.
"With increasing amounts of users and Mamma Classifieds advertisers, and the continuing growth of our ad network, Mamma.com is more than prepared to begin 2003 with a positive outlook" quotes Mr. Fauré.
